Weston Vision

The Weston Vision

"...The vision for Weston is of a growing urban centre, with a dynamic and diverse modern economy and a rejuvenated waterfront and town centre ..."

In recent years, Weston-super-Mare has suffered from a gradual decline in its traditional tourism and manufacturing industries. This has led to a lack of investment and physical decline in the town centre and waterfront areas. Now a twenty-year plan is being developed for the town, the Weston Vision.

The vision is to:

  • Make Weston's environment, economy and quality of life better
  • Create well connected communities within Weston that have a variety of housing, leisure facilities and businesses
  • Encourage and guide the town's growth
  • Establish Weston as a modern, distinct and different place that is attractive to people
  • Make sure that all of Weston (its town centre, villages, waterfront and countryside) all benefit from the new developments
  • Make the most of the unique landscape and development opportunities in and around Weston

Who is involved?

North Somerset Council, the South West RDA and English Partnerships are working with representatives from business, the local community and local town and parish councils to bring forward the vision.

Progress so far:

The RDA and English Partnerships purchased Locking Parklands in 2002 knowing that it is a site that is important to the future of Weston. Along with North Somerset Council and local people they wish to make sure that the highest quality mixed use place is created. Consultants were appointed to prepare a plan for Weston and in the early part of 2002 produced the initial Weston Vision.
